SongsToCD will let you quickly and easily make your own Audio CDs featuring your favorite tracks. SongsToCD also has features that will let you "rip" tracks from Audio CDs. It will even look up the title of each track in FreeDB (the largest free listing on CD information in the world). What is Songs to CD? SongsToCD is the perfect program for people who want to create custom "mix" CDs to play in their home or automobile CD players. Why Songs to CD? Your CD Burner came bundled with software that lets you make an Audio CD. Right? So you might be asking why you'd need SongsToCD? The answer is simple: because it's so easy to use . General purpose CD Burner software is notorious for its cryptic interfaces, technical jargon, and general difficulty of use. SongsToCD was designed to do one thing, and do it simply and well, and that one thing is to create great sounding Audio CDs. Main Screen When you first start SongsToCD you'll come up in the main interface with the File List on the left and the Song List on the right. The left-hand list shows you all of the song files that are available on your computer. You can control where SongsToCD looks for songs from the Search Paths dialog (see image below right ). The right-hand list shows you the list of songs that you want to play in the built-in player OR to burn to CD. You can also "preview" any song in either list using the built-in player. Full Drag-and-Drop support makes it easy to build your Song List or to arrange it in exactly the right order. "Ripping" CD Audio Tracks SongsToCD has a built-in "ripper" that will allow you to extract audio tracks from CD Audio disks. Currently it only extracts to WAV file format. The Rip Tracks dialog (shown at right) will look in all supported CD-ROM drives and will display the contents of all CD Audio disks it finds. If you select the "Get titles from the Internet" option, Songs to CD will access the freedb.org database of CD track information to find the titles. You can find out more about this organization Check the box next to all tracks you'd like to rip and then select "Rip Checked". You can rip the tracks to a temporary directory OR you can specify a directory of your choosing. There is also an option to add any tracks that you rip to the current Song List. Burning a CD... Once you have built your Song List you can easily write it to CD. Just click on the BurnCD button or select it from the menu to begin. The Burn CD dialog lets you select a writing speed and give a name to your disc. Select 'Burn" to begin. The progress bar will show you the steps that are being taken to create your CD. When the disk is complete the tray will open and you can now play the disk in any compatible player. This version is 2.1a, and has the new ability to create an MP3 data disk. You will need to have a suitable set of ASPI drivers installed. These drivers are standard on Window 95, 98 and ME but are an add-on with Windows NT, 2000 and XP. We provide a set of ASPI drivers that you can download and install by clicking here. What audio file formats does SongsToCD support? SongsToCD supports playback of virtually all formats of WAV and MP3 files. It will burn 44.1, 16bit, stereo WAV files and MPEG 1, 2 and 3 compliant files. Can I use SongsToCD to edit audio files on my computer? No. SongsToCD will allow you to rename these files only. You'll no doubt find this feature useful to revise the name of some of the deliberately mis-named source material that you may have on your computer. Can SongsToCD "burn" audio files to re-writable media? Will they play in my player? Yes to the first question and maybe to the second. SongsToCD will create CD-Audio disks on either CD-R or CD-RW media but many CD players are not capable of playing back the information when it is stored on CD-RW. We suggest that you experiment with your specific CD players. Can I burn more than audio CDs with SongsToCD? No. SongsToCD is specialized to burn CD Audio disks only. SongsToCD will search your entire computer for audio files pictures. There are other options available to search your entire network OR to just look in a particular set of folders. All audio files are displayed in a previewable list for your selection. What are the limitations of my evaluation copy of SongsToCD? The evaluation version of SongsToCD will cease to function after ten days or ten times running the program. Re-installing the same version of the trial will NOT reenable the program's functionality.
